East Whitby Primary Academy 🎒

During the summer holiday of 2025, refurbishment and conversion works were carried out to support the development of a new Special Educational Needs (SEN) department.

These works included the upgrade of an existing classroom and the transformation of the adjacent cloakroom into a multifunctional space comprising a teaching area, storeroom, and sensory room.

The area received new flooring and fresh decoration throughout. Within the classroom, a new kitchen unit was installed, along with a low-level wall and gate to create a designated space. A water heater was also fitted to supply hot water.

In the existing DDA-compliant shower room, the shower area was upgraded with new flooring and hygienic wall cladding (white rock). A new accessible shower unit and DDA seat were installed to improve functionality.

The changing room saw the installation of a new vanity unit, while the existing sink and tap were removed and reinstated.

To enhance fire safety and accessibility, new fire doors were fitted throughout the area, including between the two classrooms, and to the store room, sensory room, corridor, shower room, and changing room. A door entry system was also installed to control access.

Externally, groundworks were undertaken to level the surrounding area. A picket-style fence was erected, and the space was finished with artificial turf to create a safe and accessible outdoor environment.
